The Scottish Karate Alliance held a national tournament in Dundee on Sunday 4th October. Kyokushin Scotland hosted a novice knockdown mat. Shihan, Sensei and Senpai Liz, Gil and Brian refereed and judged. Harry and Liam ran the table. Liam, Phil and Hamish fought and were coached by James. It was the first experience of a tournament for Phil and Hamish. It was a good introduction for the rest of the clubs to see and hear knockdown for the first time. Matthew took part in the kata section and performed his kata to a high standard.

A course covering all aspects of the syllabus took place in the dojo on Sunday 24th May and was hosted by Shihan and Sensei. At the course Matthew Duff was awarded his coaching certificate for his help with the junior classes on Wednesday evenings.
In order to cover the costs of the dojo, it was agreed at the AGM in May that the costs for adults will increase to £5 per session. Juniors will remain at £3 and the monthly Direct Debit option for adults will also stay at £40. These prices are still fantastic value when compared to hourly costs of any other types of classes.
Senpai Brian attended the 29th European Open Tournament in Berlin at the start of May. He sat his Assistant Judge award, and represented Scotland in the men's kata. The Assistant Judge award required a course and exam on the Friday night followed by being a corner judge in over 70 fights at the tournament. It was a fantastic experience.
The English Open took place on Saturday 20th March in Bishops Stortford. Three people took part from the club. We had a good tournament, picking up 3 medals. Mirroring the 2014 tournament, we picked up 2 gold medals in the Kata with Senpai Donna winning the Ladies and Matthew winning the boys again. Liam was second in the Middleweight knockdown again. It is hoped that we will take a bigger squad to the British Open in October.
Winter camp took place in the Inveralmond dojo for the second time over the weekend of 6th to 8th February. It was the first time there was a national grading in Scotland since 2011. Shihan Jose, Shihan Martin, Shihan Mac, Sensei Belle and Senpai Claudio all gave the students various different classes over the weekend. Over 30 students took part and trained very hard across the weekend. Three students passed Black belt gradings over the weekend. Kris Wozniak and Brett Allum passed their Sandan and Donna Whyte passed her Shodan. 5 other students from the Perth dojo also passed gradings at the camp. All in all it was a fantastic camp and it will be repeated again next year.
